Trading Junk Online
Here, I will list some of the best places online to trade your old junk. I use these sites, because
my room is getting too full of old stuff that I don't use anymore, and stacking everything is not a good
solution. I might as well take what I have and try to get what I want.
www.barterbee.com
You can trade most media items -- music, movies, and video games on barterbee. You can determine the prices for your
items, so charge what you think is fair. When you "sell" an item, you get points for it, which you can use to redeem for
items from other people. Some prices are ridiculously high, since the users set prices, so be careful not to rip yourself off. This is very similar to
switchdiscs (which I talk about later), except it costs a dollar to make trades, and you get a dollar plus five points in your account as an introductory
gift if you sign up, so you can request something before you have to send something out.
www.swapsimple.com
Here you may trade most media items such as textbooks, DVD's, and video games. This community has a limited number of listed items, but I like it because the prices assigned to each
item are fair and based on the amazon.com prices.
On swapsimple, you post items that you are willing to part with, and you receive instant credits worth
1/5 of the value of your items (rounded down) so that you can order something before you send something out.
The items are priced by credits with each credit worth about a dollar.
The swapsimple site determines how much your items are worth, and items in better condition are worth more.
If you do happen to sign up, then use the promotional code
claire222 so you get your first item free and I get credit for referring you.
Shipping is paid for by the user who orders an item.
www.switchdiscs.com
Switchdiscs is probably one of my favorite communities for trading stuff online. You can trade anything disc related
such as video games, DVD's, and CD's. The selection is one of the larger ones on the internet, and users set their own
prices. You set your price to the number of switchbucs that you feel is fair, and if other users think your price
is reasonable, they will request your items. It was originally intended for each switchbuc to be worth a dollar, but
there is a little bit inflation, so the prices of items are usually higher than the suggested prices. Be careful not to
rip yourself off as a newbie, and look at some of the prices of other items before you start posting to get an idea of
how much you should charge. When an item is posted, the poster is supposed to specify whether he/she has the disc only, the disc with
the artwork, the full set, or just the disc and the case, so other traders know what they're requesting.
www.titletrader.com
On titletrader, the cost of items is also determined by the site. Most books are worth one credit, DVD's 2, VHS tapes 1, CD's 1, Video Games 1 or 2, and magazines 1, but
the prices may vary depending on what you are posting. There is some good stuff up for trade, but you need to check frequently if you
wish to get it before other people do. I mostly use this site to get rid of old DVD's and books and usually request DVD's or video games if someone posts a good one.
Shipping is paid for by the user who sends the item.
www.paperbackswap.com
This site is designed mainly for people who like to read. They have one of the largest selections on the internet with over 800,000 posted
books. Every book is worth one credit regardless of its market value.
If you trade audio books, then they're worth two credits each. I recommend
trading cheap paperbacks here, because you get a really bad deal if you post expensive books. I mainly use this to order
books for required reading at school so I can have my own copies. Shipping is paid for by the sender. Remember, you were referred by
clairec@national-champs.com
www.swapacd.com
Swapacd is very similar to paperbackswap, except you trade CD's there instead of books. Another difference is that
if you order a CD, you have to pay a 49 cent service charge. You can transfer credits between your paperbackswap and
swapacd accounts if you have both of them. Remember, you were referred by
clairec@national-champs.com
www.peerflix.com
There is a fixed cost of 99 cents plus shipping every time you order a DVD. It will not cost you any real money
to send one out. The currency for peerflix is trade cash, and the value of each DVD is determined by the
peerflix site to control inflation and ensure fairness. What I don't like about them is that you get the disc only
in trades. There is no option to trade the artwork or case. There is no way to request DVD's directly, but after you sign up,
you will create a list of DVD's you have and another one of the DVD's you want. When the system finds someone who wants a DVD and
someone else who has it, they will ask the member who has the disc to send it to the member who wants it by putting a
link that says Mail it now! next to the title. You may mail DVD's that have the mail it now link whenever you feel
like it, but you only receive them if somebody else choose to mail them.
